Joining Us
If you are thinking that you’d quite like to hear Wight Harmony at first hand with
a view to joining us then we have the opportunity for you.
Where?
Although we welcome potential singers at any time, the first Thursday in every
month is especially designed as an Open Night, just for you. We practice at
Wootton Methodist Church, in Station Road at Wootton on the island.
When?
Weekly rehearsals begin at 7:00pm for ad-hoc singing and socialising. The
evening then starts officially with a vocal warm-up at 7:30pm. New songs are
practised sometimes with section rehearsals. Coffee break is at 8:45pm during
which any business is addressed. The rehearsal continues from 9:00pm until
10:00pm with songs from our repertoire.
How?
During this time we will talk to you personally to hear of your thoughts and also
teach you a simple ‘tag’ or short piece of music and then ask if you’d like to sing it
with the chorus, to give you a flavour of what its like. We will then help you to find
out if you are a lead or tenor, bass or baritone, either on your first visit or later on.
What then?
It’s completely up to you! If you return, we will give you a voice test and offer you
a set of teaching materials of lyrics, music and teaching tracks on CDs. These
methods are used by the singers to learn their parts. Each section [lead, tenor,
bass, baritone] has a section leader who will support you too.
I have some more questions.
Please call Dave Bryant our musical director on 01983 295790 for more
information.
